Inspur's Distributed Storage Ranks First in SPC-1 Benchmark Test

21 July 2021

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 13, 2021 — On June 25th (EST), the Storage Performance Council (SPC) released the latest SPC-1 benchmark test report. Inspur's distributed storage AS13000G5 achieved a result of 6,300,529 IOPS (read and write operations per second) and 0.781 ms latency, breaking the world's record in distributed storage performance.

Inspur's distributed storage got a test result of 6.3 million IOPS and 0.781 ms latency.

The ranking list for SPC-1 benchmark test, the most influential international storage performance test, was released by the world-renowned standards body Storage Performance Council. The rapid advancement of industrial digitization and digital industrialization makes real-time storage and processing of massive data an increasingly important task for industry players. Performance is a key consideration for enterprises in selecting storage systems in IO-intensive application scenarios such as cloud-based key services, commercial HPC, and big data analysis. The SPC-1 benchmark test involves three standard test procedures - Metrics, Repeatability, and Persistence — to evaluate a storage system's ability to process complex requests and a large volume of data.

In this SPC-1 test, Inspur's distributed storage topped the rankings in single-node performance with a result of over 6.3 million IOPS, 68% higher than the runner-up. The storage can be expanded to accommodate 5120 storage units, with IOPS reaching 100 million theoretically to deliver the world's most powerful performance to handle the workload of IO-intensive business.

Inspur's success in achieving top results can be attributed to its technological innovations and breakthroughs in data storage controllers. Inspur's integrated parallel storage system is the industry's first storage system with an "all-in-one" minimalist architecture. It leverages dozens of nodes efficiently to provide storage service and allows linear scaling of performance. At the same time, its iTurbo intelligent acceleration engine, which is based on software stack algorithms such as intelligent IO balancing, intelligent resource scheduling and intelligent metadata management, works with Inspur-developed NVMe SSD flash drives for system-level joint debugging and optimization, providing millions of IOPS in a balanced manner at lower latencies and maximizing the performance of the storage system. A large number of Inspur storage systems have been deployed in emerging applications in various industries such as astronomy, neuroscience, and petroleum prospecting, and has received broad recognition for its proven maturity.

This is the fifth time that Inspur's storage system has topped the SPC-1 list. As early as 2017, Inspur's storage product set an industry record in the category of 8-controller storage for providing more than 1.5 million IOPS. 3 years since, Inspur has won three championships in 16-controller storage, 8-controller storage and price performance for its storage that delivered a performance 5 times higher than its predecessor. This year Inspur's storage product made another breakthrough in the field of distributed storage with an overwhelming competitive advantage.

As the initiator and leader in new data storage, Inspur has been investing in emerging fields such as distributed storage and all-flash storage. According to the latest data from Gartner for the global storage market, Inspur has earned the fifth position in sales in the storage market.
