Inspur becomes world's second-largest server vendor

26 September 2021

As every country embraces development of the digital economy, computing power has become the cornerstone of digital economy development – and will continue to drive global growth of the server business

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 27, 2021 – Inspur Information, a leading IT infrastructure solution provider, today announced a major milestone in its global sales of high-performance, power-efficient servers: According to IDC's latest quarterly report, Inspur has jumped to second place in worldwide server shipments.

The landscape of the world’s three major suppliers has changed. Inspur now becomes the world’s second largest server supplier with a market share of 10.1%. This accomplishment was particularly noteworthy as total global shipments of servers exceeded 3.22 million units, an increase of 0.1% year-on-year, and Inspur grew to the second largest server supplier despite the overall server market's 2.5% year-over-year decrease to US$23.6 billion.

Global server sales declined in Q2 2021 due in part to temporary component supply issues and a slowdown in deployment of hyper-scale data centers. From a regional perspective, however, Asia Pacific revenue (excluding China and Japan) rose 8.6% year-on-year, while China's server revenue increased by 3.4% over the previous year. By comparison, revenue in Japan fell 21.2% year-on-year, and North American revenue declined 5.7% year-on-year.

The COVID-19 epidemic has accelerated digital transformation across the globe, and every country is realizing that the digital economy will be the core of future economic competition. According to IDC's forecast, the global digital economy will account for 58.1% of GDP by 2024, compared with 50.1% currently. For every 1% average increase in the computing power index, the country's digital economy and GDP will grow by 3.3 and 1.8, respectively.

Organizations and countries have recognized that they must prioritize computing power development to grow their digital economies. Government investment in public computing infrastructure is becoming an important tool to drive growth of a nation's digital economy.

As the world's leading provider in IT infrastructure, Inspur is committed to promoting the continuous development of digital technology, and helping enterprises take the lead in digital transformation. Inspur now operates businesses in 120 countries and regions around the world, with eight global R&D centers, six global production centers, and two global service centers.
